School Begins...

As I start school this year and progress through our professional development, I realize more and more how fortunate I am to have grown up in a stable, moral, safe, and prosperous environment. The realities of the reservation culture awaken before me again. The most heartbreaking of it all is to hear what an enormous gap there is between ideals of how Indian culture once was and what some so badly want it to be again and the brutal realities of what is currently happening. At this point the school is promoting the reinstatement of Arapaho language courses in our school, with federal money from a Title III grant, in hopes that scores will improve in all areas. (I hope to be a fluent speaker befor long...just kidding.)

I received my class list today and only have 13 students at this time, however I have gotten a gasp from everyone who has previewed my list. I am simply aking for prayers that I will be a sense of stability, security, and acceptance in their young lives.

Tan,

Thinking of you this week . . . as I muddle through figuring out "what to do with my life," you're really doing it. Do you know this one?, Isaiah 61:

1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor.
4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.
